Seawater Supply Pipe Replacement

SETCH Design was engaged to 3D laser scan and model the header pipework and supports of the seawater supply line at a large scale processing plant.

The seawater supply line stretched over 500 metres with multiple critical tie points. A 3D model of the pipeline was produced containing the changes requested from site. SETCH worked closely with the team on site and the external piping fabricators to ensure all pipe could be fabricated and transported to site without the need to be derated and no rework required on site. A full set of General Arrangement and Fabrication drawings were delivered including the redesign of two thrust block supports to ensure maximum strength in areas that have previously failed.

Stockpile Scans

Each month SETCH Design is tasked with providing the volumes of stockpiles across multiple locations.

The stockpiles vary greatly in size from less than 100 to over 20,000 cubic metres and products range from Zinc, Lead, Copper and Coal. From many years of experience with stockpile scanning SETCH is able to provide the most accurate stockpile measurements with the results delivered in the same day of scanning. This is all possible by using the variety of laser scanning and photogrammetry equipment and software available.

Site Laser Scan

SETCH Design was engaged to laser scan multiple areas of interest spread throughout the processing plant at a large scale mine site.

By using two laser scanners, SETCH employees were able to achieve a total of 350 scans within five days. This obtained complete coverage of all areas required. All 350 scans were linked together with millimetre accuracy across the full data set which was then aligned to site datum as requested by the client. The point cloud was delivered in multiple formats with a rapid turn around.

Ammonia Plant Laser Scan

SETCH Design was tasked with scanning a large section of brownfield plant for new piping to be run.

The new pipe runs needed to connect multiple tie in points at each end of the 70m proposed pipe run through dense existing piping, structure and process equipment. Potential support locations and access points were identified. The scan data was aligned to site datum for future works. Scan data was transmitted to stakeholders in a variety of formats (.ptx, .pts, .rcp, .rcs and TruView) for project planning and design.

Tank Liner Scan

SETCH Design was engaged to scan and check fabrication of a two part tank liner prior to installation.

Delivering on a tight time frame, scan data was captured, registered, aligned and compared with the 3D model (designed by others) using 3DReshaper with next day response. The reports generated assisted in determining fabrication tolerances and identifying points of scale build-up inside the tower that could impede the insertion of the liners.

Spoon Chute and Platform

SETCH Design was engaged to design a new spoon chute, supporting maintenance platform for a shiploader and conduct a lift study of new components.

The challenges of 3D clash detection with multiple moving components were overcome through 3D laser scanning and 3D modelling. General arrangement with detail and fabrication drawings were provided.

Acid Pipework

Pipe Spool Fabrication Checks

Stacker Reclaimer Rail Alignment

SETCH Design was chartered to extensively scan 3 sets of rail each over a kilometre long and report on the multiple alignment parameters.

2 Laser Scanners, 1 Totalstation and numerous targets were used simultaneously in operation to capture the data and tie-in to site datum. All bunds and drains were scanned with the data utilised in later projects. With over 300 scans and over 1000 unique target locations, this is currently the largest single dataset recorded.

Maintenance Platforms

SETCH Design were given the task to design, detail and RPEQ certify 4 x complex pump access platforms.

Each of the 4 x locations requiring a platform were Laser Scanned to ensure enough detail was collected so that a custom platform could be design, detailed and fabricated that would provide adequate accessibility to the pumps. The laser scan data ensured the platform could be modelled among as-built / brownfield plant without clash issues.
